Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity acquired a lot in Shutesbury, MA, in 2019, and began building a 2-story, 3-bedroom home on West Pelham Rd in June 2020. A wall-raising ceremony was held in early July to commemorate the official start of the build. While we were unable to host our usual numbers of volunteers due to ongoing safety concerns around Covid-19, small group of regular volunteers worked to complete this home alongside the future homeowner in accordance with local and state health guidelines.

This rural wooded location is only a 15-20 minute drive to Amherst, perfect for someone who wants to enjoy the natural setting of the 1.65 acre lot and be part of a small town close to UMass and other amenities in Amherst. There is no public transportation available, but the home is on a paved road.

The house has its own septic system and well and options for connecting to Shutesbury’s new town-owned high speed internet. The home was built to ENERGY STAR standards and heated with an Air Source Heat Pump. The home is approximately 1,300 sq ft, and features a full bath and 3 bedrooms on the second floor, with a half bath, laundry, and an open floor plan living/dining/kitchen area on the first floor. Outdoor storage is included in an attached shed.

We held the lottery for the house to be built by Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity in Shutesbury, MA in April 2020. Lotteries are open to the public, and usually done in a public space, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 concerns it was held via Zoom.
